U.S. Navy Commander Frank Weisser is a two-time Blue Angels pilot who has spent his career operating where the margin for error is razor thin. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he has logged more than 5,000 flight hours and nearly 500 carrier arrested landings, with three combat deployments including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His service has earned him multiple Meritorious Service Medals, Strike Flight Air Medals, and numerous personal and unit awards.

Beyond his military career, Frank served as the real pilot behind some of the most memorable flying scenes in Top Gun: Maverick. In the film’s now-famous canyon run, the jet tearing through tight turns at breathtaking speed appears to be flown by Tom Cruise. In reality, Frank was in the cockpit, executing the demanding 2:15 course that proved the mission could be done. His role in the $1.5 billion blockbuster reflects the same precision, preparation, and composure that defined his time with the Blue Angels.

Frank holds a master’s degree in Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and is type rated in the Gulfstream 450 and 550. He lives in the North Georgia mountains, where aviation remains both his profession and his passion.
