Thirty-five nights that no one outside those walls ever knew about. Retired Detective Kevin McNeil takes the audience through the door of that house and shows them what has been happening long before anyone was called.

Drawing on two decades of investigative experience, Detective McNeil introduces the V.I.C.T.I.M. framework — Validate, Identify, Collect, Team, Intervene, Make the Case — a field-tested structure for building domestic violence cases that hold up in court even when the victim recants, refuses to testify, or is still protecting the person who hurt her. He walks the audience through real case autopsies: the strangulation charged as a misdemeanor before it became a homicide, the video footage no one requested, the faith community that counseled reconciliation instead of reporting.

He challenges the belief that has closed more cases than any defense attorney ever has — that there is nothing we can do unless she reports. There is. Detective McNeil shows investigators and advocates how to build a case around a victim rather than on top of one, and why the children in that house and the neighbors on that street are witnesses we have been trained to overlook.
